Sports Injury
Sports ‘Chiropractic’ vs. Sports ‘Medicine’
Sports Chiropractic is not limited to just the treatment of sports injuries. With the proper ‘sports chiropractic’ technique, injuries may be prevented by improving core stability, proprioception and increasing the accuracy of the brain’s control over muscles. Chiropractic treatment can also play a pivotal role in improving overall athletic performance. Studies have shown that nervous system changes from a single session of spinal adjustments are similar to what has been observed following three weeks of strength training.
Injuries
When treating the athlete it is important to ‘zoom out’ and evaluate from the feet up to the head. Mechanical alterations in the feet and ankle can cause distortions throughout the entire kinetic chain- causing knee, hip and spine problems. The upper extremity is no different- shoulder problems must also include an evaluation of the entire kinetic chain (elbow, wrist and scapula).
Better structure equals better function
Many sports related injuries involve some degree of inflammation- whether it is from overuse, improper mechanics or trauma. Improper alignment within your joints will create inflammation from wear and tear and lead to pain and degradation of the joint cartilage. Inflammation can be treated with chiropractic adjustments and proper nutrition and supplementation.
